Wow.....we are speechless after of fun filled weekend and trip to the KENTUCKY DERBY! It had been #1 on my bucket list since I was about 12, because we all know I love fashion and celebrities, plus betting and horse racing to boot....its a DREAM come true! Roger of course has always wanted to go because it is one of the most famous days "in sports" to be a part of. We are so thankful for everyone who made the dream happen...Pops and Kitty, Mimi and Gigi, and an extra thanks to David and Debbie Barnes that we stayed with, who made us feel we were at the Ritz. Welcome baskets of Kentucky Derby memorabilia and even a care package for the ride home( on a side note ...boy did we need those goodies after getting trapped and re-routed because of the flooding! 13 hour car ride home.....another memory we will NEVER forget!) We got to the turf club about 9 am and beat all the traffic into the Derby, so we got to take a tour of the terrace and take some great pics. It was so surreal, the whole thing! From watching the horses race to actually picking winning horses and counting our lute, haha...like $59 bucks...but lute non the less ;) We enjoyed seeing all the different people and even met a couple of friends throught the day. The famous hats and celeb sightings didn't disappoint, but the mint juleps did, YUK, those things are terrible! We got to see Smokey Robinson,Jerry O'Connell and Rebecca Romine, the Jackson 3, Tom Brady, Justin Timberlake, Aaron Rodgers and a lot of other sports guys! Roger got his pick with one of his favs, Kenny Mayne from ESPN, that was a HUGE highlight in our trip! We actually got to move to our seats for the actual Derby and the sun popped out for just about 15 min for the race, must have been God smiling down. It was so cool when the jockeys and owners and trainers all walk the track to intro the horses and getting to sing My Old Kentucky Home will give you chills. What a great time and now on to #2 on my bucket list...TALLADEGA!!
